THE WILSON FAMILY GENEALOGY

THOMAS WILSON

Thomas was the father of 14 children who was married to Easter Cobb. Two of their sons were Methodist Ministers ("circut riders"). Thomas was born in VA, and died in Mississippi prior to the Civil War. It's not known when or why he left Tuscalossaa, AL, where most of his children were born. But the family is next found in Pontotoc County, MS> His widow and several of his children left Mississippi sometime shortly after the Civil War and went first to Bell County and then on to Coryell County, Texas. His widow is buried in Little River, Bell County, Texas. Thomas's father is either James or John, a Scots-Irish farmer.

JOHN W. WILSON

John and his wife Polly had seven children. Their children were all born in Mississippi prior to the Civil War, and most died in Texas. This means that while some were already married, they accompained other family members to Texas shortly after the Civil War. Land records for Coryell County indicaat that the first purchased land in 1873 known as the Miller Wilson land. A portion of this land was later donated for the cemtary known as Weaver's Chapel in what was once Ames, Coryell County, Texas. These records seem to substanciate the family story of leaving Mississippi after the war because their property, including a lumber mill, had been "burned out" by the Yankees.

John and Polly's children were:

WILLIAM JAMES "BILL" b. 9 March 1844 in AL or MS, m. 1 November 1866 to Martha Emiline Mayhew, d. 21 June 19910
