THE KIEVIT FAMILY GENEALOGY

The following information was obtained from Volume I of the Dutch Immigrants in U.S Passenger Manifests from 1820-1880 compiled by Robert P. Sweierenga, published by Scholarly Resources Inc., Wilmington, Del.
During this 60-year period of time, there were only a handful of Kievit and Maat family members to emigrate from Holland to America. It’s important to note that all embarked in Rotterdam, all arrived in New York. In addition, with the exception of one, they all listed their occupations as "054", a code describing a Farmer, Landman, Peasant, Agriculture, or Countryman.
Five Kievit men traveled and arrived independently; the rest all came in family groups. While there is no proof yet that all these people are related, the fact that there were so few of them, all coming from the same area, all the same occupation, and all going to New York would establish a basis for the assumption that they were all part of an extended family.
